Fireworks!
by Diane ZuHone Shore
Twilight darkens,
curtain rises.
Enter skyward,
night surprises.
Roman candles
burst the scene
DASHING! FLASHING!
red, blue, green.
Comets scatter,
shatter, split.
Silver sizzles,
sparkles spit.
Gold tourbillions
steal the stage,
shooting stars
into a rage.
Oooh’s and ahhh’s
applaud the sky.
FLASH! BOOM! BANG!
the Fourth of July!
School’s Out!
Summer’s In!
by Diane Z. Shore
School’s out!
Summer’s in!
Live-long days begin again.
Hiking, biking,
cookouts, camps,
overnights
at Gran and Gramps’.
Lighting bugs
and lemon squeezes,
sunburned noses,
skinned up kneeses.
Freckled cheeks
and ice-creamed chins-
School’s out!
Summer’s in!
